"Quanto costa questo?" means "How much does this cost?" and is the basic way to ask for a price while shopping in Italian. For plural items, it becomes "Quanto costano?" (How much do they cost?). When you want to try something on, "Posso provarlo?" (Can I try it on?) is also commonly used.
