German Greeting: "Wie geht's?"

"Wie geht's?" is a casual greeting commonly used in German, literally meaning "How's it going?" It's more informal than the formal "Wie geht es Ihnen?" and often comes up in conversations between friends or colleagues. A typical reply is something like "Gut, und dir?" (Good, and you?).

Examples

Wie geht's dir?

"How are you doing?" (a casual way to ask how someone's been)

"I'm doing well, thanks." (a polite reply to "Wie geht's?")

Wie geht's der Familie?
