中文(简体)
A Chinese Phrase for Asking About Someone's Job: "你是做什么工作的?"
"你是做什么工作的?" means "What do you do for work?" and it's the basic Chinese expression used to ask about someone's occupation. It's often used in self-introductions and when meeting someone for the first time. To answer, you use the form "我是~" (I am a ~), as in "我是医生" (I'm a doctor). You can keep the conversation going by reacting to their answer with something like "那一定很辛苦吧!" (That must be tough!).
